More on science and religion at the Faith Website.
Children often ask this question and parents can be wrong-footed by it. Like many innocent questions that children ask, it gets us thinking!
Nobody made God - the whole point about God is that he is not made or caused or started by anyone or anything else. He is the beginning and the end, the first cause and the creator of the universe - the creator of everything else.
There has to be a God who is not caused or made because otherwise we would go back forever without ever finding the beginning of things. And if there is no beginning, there can be no "things". There would be "nothing" without God.
Today, we can be more sure than ever of the existence of God because we know from the study of science that our universe is not a random chaos but an ordered cosmos. We can discover the laws that are "written into" the universe and we can use them to make amazing things - like the computer you are using now. The very fact that we can discover these laws tells us beyond doubt that the universe did not come about by chance but was created by a supreme mind - and we all him "God".
